  1. I think I remember the NASCAR's racing there averaged 140 mph laps with the Auscars around 125 mph laps. Another thing that I think made it fail was track developed lots of dips and bumps over time. Likely from the low quality fill that formed the earthworks of the track Bob Jane invited it to be used as a free place to dump earth, supposedly clean fill, , but according to a truck driving friend, this lead to it being treated as a virtual toxic waste dump during the four year construction by quite a few unscrupulous earth removal operators. Local Melbourne expansive clay soils did the rest.
