  1. G'day Ian. You might like to look at Wolesley Road Point Piper in Sydney. Understand that this is the most expensive street in Australia. Wikipedia saying properties there were forty times the median average price of properties in all of Australia. Sometimes the cheapest property is cheap for bad reasons not talked about too much. Would hate to see an overseas person buy into a bad area on just a cost basis.

  2. A random search for properties will show so many more east coast properties because of the population distribution.

  3. A few weird exceptions like South Melbourne 3205 right next to Southbank 3006 and also Albert Park 3206. All walkable from the CBD of Melbourne. Frankston 3199 about 40 km away. Postcodes just designed for mail delivery and not geography.

  6. Up until the sixties Safety Beach was known as Shark Bay. Wikipedia has more info on the shark presence but not so much on if they are still there.

For the opal mining town of Coober Pedy in South Australia, their last bank branch – a Westpac – is set to close on February 17. Residents will need to travel six hours to its nearest bank in Port Augusta, which is 550 kilometres away, or access banking through the post office, which will only offer limited services. Lots of outback residents are not up with internet and computer usage. Some not even literate.

  8. Melbourne auctions commonly have a reserve higher than the top figure. Offering the top figure before auction will rarely buy you the house.

  9. There is population increase from births exceeding deaths as far back as I can track, but for many years that is swamped by much larger net immigration. Checking the ABS statistics on line will give the actual numbers.
