Just sharing the same US Detroit head office approved styling. Very few parts, and especially panels and glass are interchangeable. Looking similar leads lots of people reaching incorrect conclusions about the mass market Holden's. Where Opel parts and engineering was used in some Holden's they were found to be too weak for Australian conditions. More suited to the throw away mentality to cars in Europe.

Only true for some of the low volume Holden small cars. For the larger six and eight cylinder cars that were the bulk of Holden sales they just shared similar styling. From the US Detroit approved styling that was also lucrative for transfer pricing purposes. Very few parts, and especially panels and glass are interchangeable. Looking similar leads lots of people reaching incorrect conclusions about the mass market Holden's. Gday Ian .Lots of comments here about all Holdens being Opels. Sometimes true for the rebadged small cars in the Holden range. But usually just same US Detroit head office approved and influencef styling. For most of the larger cars very few parts, and especially panels and glass are interchangeable. Looking similar leads lots of people reaching incorrect conclusions about the mass market Holden's. Where Opel parts and engineering was used in some Holden's they were found to be too weak for Australian conditions. More suited to the throw away mentality to cars in Europe. Helped by salted roads and rust and wanting the image of a new car for status.

A lot of extra work needed to engineer out the Opel weaknesses and cope with Australian roads. Not entirely successful as the Commodore was the start of Holden's decline from earlier massive market dominance.
