Joseph R. Moore Completely understandable. However, on your thoughts with the officers being able to discern an assailant or not, basically, it's better to make the police officers job easier by either carrying concealed fire arms like pistols, rather than having long rifles openly visible. It's better to be able to draw from concealment, deal with the threat, and then call law enforcement, after you've then secured your weapon. I see it as added security due to the nature of concealment. Open carry is a bit like showing off. I mean sure, to a number of people, it's fine, but to a majority who really want to just go about normal days without thinking of threats, it's just polite i guess.
