In my perhaps erroneous opinion, the difference between liberal and conservative is that liberals want to refine society into what fits their progressive idealizations, so that they can conserve that society and become conservatives themselves. Conservatives not only desire to conserve but to eradicate liberals, in order to form a single party society the way monarchies, dictatorships, despotisms, communists, Nazis, fascists, and other assorted villains have demonstrated long histories of tyrannies. Those who seek political power do it for themselves, not others. We've learned that simple lesson enough times to memorize it by now.
