I know well why I became an atheist. I was forced into a Baptist church when young. I couldn't understand the vigor the adherents exercised in trying to convert me, before I had a chance to read their holy book. They proved many things to me. They cared more for what I believed than what I thought, more for my soul than my mind, and more for my obedience than my opinion. How transparent their exhortations were, pleading with me to confess my sins and accept their lord as a savior.
A real god wouldn't need to indoctrinate and brainwash worshippers. It's been 50 years now, and they're no closer to convincing me their illogical beliefs are true in any manner whatsoever. They threaten my soul with punishment for disbelief.
The cult of Jesus Theory implies that humans only borrow souls, and must return them to the original owner after use for final disposition and post-mortem analysis for the crimes of disbelief. That's a weird belief. Humans don't own their souls, because they didn't create them. The god responsible created them, according to the theory, so they must belong to whoever created the soul. I am not my soul, and thus have no say in its disposition after I'm done using it. If there even is such a thing, since it has yet to be proven.
