It was mined in Colorado as vanadium, which occurs with the uranium.

@RadioactiveDrew That would require forced ventilation and who would pay for it?

@RadioactiveDrew Drew, you really don't understand radon! You are not detecting radon with that toy, but you are breathing in the daughter products into your lungs and they are alpha emitters. Once inside they stick inside the alveoli as they are charged metallic particles. whey they spend the rest of their - and your life. The half-life of Pb210 is 22 years, The activity in the air in an unventilated uranium mine can easily reach 25 M pCi/L and you breath about 8 litres of air per minute, that's 200 million pCi/L or 200 micro-Curies of activity per minute going through your lungs. Even if only 10% stick, it is still 20 uCi per minute and remember 1 Ci is the activity of 1 gram of radium. So you are putting 20 micro-curies of radium equivalent in your lungs every minute and you spend say 20 minutes exploring. - do the math! That's why uranium mining companies are obliged to put warning signs on the entrances.
