One point not covered is that the earth pin is on top. If a plug is partly out of socket, it is far better protected from something falling into the gap possibly shorting the active-neutral if the fallen in bridging item is conductive.. if anything it will short either active ot neutral to ground. Also most likely that the shorting object is grounded state not live to be hazardous if exposing anyone to that connection. The US plugs typically have the active-neutral at top, guaranteeing to cause a short active to neutral with ground not connected, at all, leading to potential power to the shorting item and potentially hazardous voltage state on that shorting object. I also believe the US socket does not have uniform active and neutral location in the socket, line connection to the two pins is either way round. Never which of the two is active or neutral.
