Just to go into the city centre is some 40 min driving even on the freeway, longer on other main roads with traffic lights to get through, and that is not even outer limits of the larger cities. Far is at least several hours away. Day trips typically hundreds of kilometers . By the way Mt ISA in Qld would be some three days driving to Broome if doing thousand km typical per day. Life danger if driving nights, with kangaroos, cattle water buffalo horses as possible hazards among other things. Even day time can have risks of animal impacts. Big trucks, road trains are also a risk to many drivers, as is tiredness, dozing off.
