Hail can occur with strong rain storms or particularly as part of thunder storms, that can occur throughout the year. Mostly only small hail grains, but some places from memory Sydney and north seem to occasionally get large hail, causing severe damage. Back many years ago, Sydney had massive damage that grounded many aircraft, needing repairs, stranding tourists for days. My parents having mistimed departure of their Europe trip, had to wait two weeks for a alternative flight to clear the backlog of such stranded travellers. Huge number of cars were written off for excessive damage, including new cars in dealers yards and even entire shipment of new cars at habour import area, having just arrived by ship. Many cars with moderate damage with dimpled panels and replacement widows were sold for large discounts if repairable at moderate costs. Some private cars went on for years with the dimpled metal work and where need some spraypaint.
Yes we can get several hail storms each year, few actually doing harm, but not uncommon to have icy snow like cover that melts away in minutes to hours.

Jindybine is in the "Snowy Mountains" area south of Canberra to the Victorian border. It is one part of high plains that are snow covered in winter. Nearby are a number of popular Ski Resorts, as well the Snowy Mountains Hydro Power system built using mostly post WW-II migrant workers. Currently an extension of the Hydro scheme is part of the Climate Change induced changes towards reducing Australias emissions, but these changes are going to use Wind/solar power to pump water back up to elevation, to create power during overnight and/or no wind conditions, to maintain power when unreliable renewals are no providing or during peak electrical demand periods from this hydro system, as the existing hydro, like most around the world, uses water at elevation or in storages, but once the water is used it is gone down river. The reuse, by using renewable (solar/wind) of the water by pumpiing water back to high elevation makes better use of water resources, that are at times restricted by Australian weather, droughts and annual periods in general of low rainfall.
