In many cases I and many others tend to use the highway names more than the numbers in talking of ways around, while driving a mix of follow the abbreviated numbers on signs but looking to follow the named highway and where to turnoff onto different highway. Amusing to international visitors is finding dirt/gravel roads with major highway designations though that is in remotevareas not major cities.
