On topic of avoiding snakes, it remains so surprising that very many people concentrate on ground level for snakes. Stomping feet can help, but sadly, as my dad discovered after several visits to a local animal sanctuary. SNAKES DO CLIMB INTO BUSHES AND TREES. For many years while fishing and camping dad would always look to where the feet were going, but grab bushes and branches, pushing them aside. He then saw snakes in the bushes and even up in a tall tree. Shock and horror. Stomping the ground is NOT scaring snakes not on the ground and that includes those in large tussocks of grass. Always be aware of the entire surroundings. I have caught as many snakes in bushes and away from ground as on the ground or under objects, like rocks, wood, bark, garbage lying around. But I would say if basic precautions are practiced, you are most likely only finding snakes if looking for them. They keep out of your way if at all possible.

Uluru is only a short hop of 470km once you are in Alice Springs. So if traveling from Gold Coast, once you have spent probably 4 days driving to Alice Springs it is a mere 1 day to go to Uluru. Longer if not prepared to drive 500 to 1000km day distances. Japanese can not even imagine the sizes/distances in Australia.
On topic of drop bears, while the impression of ferocious bears that rip you to bits is scary fiction. There is one aspect that they DO DESERVE the "Drop Bear" title for, nothing ferocious, but walking in forests inhabited by Koalas, there is a serious unpleasant "DROP" hazard. They Wee freely and drop other wastes. It is quite high probability, that while it is sunny blue skies, no clouds that you experience a warm shower below the trees, and as their diet is strong scented Eucalyptus, the shower does have a strong Perfume, not commonly sold (Yet)
And also can be bombarded with hard pellets, that can fall into you clothing, also with a natural scent.
So in some ways 'Beware of drop bears' has some validity. It will not be deadly, but you could find yourself unpopular with other people. Most bushland is also not well served by wash rooms, so you could spend most of your day well scented. HA HA.
