When it comes to jungle action Australia teaches the likes of USA and others. Most recent action that involved Australia, from Vietnam Timor, middle east, Iraq, Afganistan, in all Australia has more than carried it weight well. Being very successful in all theaters. Before Vietnam, all Australian soldiers were volunteers, none doing service to gain college or other benefits.
WW I and WW II the Australian soldiers were not restricted and were able to leave war, without desertion charges. Sadly many were unjustified punished/executed by other military services, who acted on their own military rules. Some in Boer War in South Africa, were executed for actions forced on them by British commanders, who saved their own rearend, by blaming the Aust soldiers, who acted under their orders, claiming they did atrocities. Even recent Afganistan claims of atrocities seem highly politicised, and far beyond actual happening.
In WW II many Pacific and South East Asia actions were only successful due to Aust actions.
