Well at least DO NOT HOLD YOUR MOBILE PHONE CLOSER.
With a long selfie stick, at least it can only hit the camera or the end of the stick. Even then the snake can easily rush towards you, very fast, faster than you can run so definitely not advisable to annoy the snake too much.
The Desert Brown is especially aggressive, but all Brown, Taipan, Copperhead, Tiger and Redbelly Black snakes all can move rapidly if fully warmed. Leave them alone if at all possible, majority of bites are still where a person has tried to interfere with the snake. Yes there are enough cases where the person was not even aware of the snake, but usually the snake will try to avoid contact, but stepping on one is not good.
Awkward is waking in your tent, in your sleeping bag to find a snake curled up on the legs/foot end. No not in the sleeping bag, that is far worse. Very careful crawl out of the sleeping bag, then drag it out on the empty bag, to crawl away. Good reason to run the zipper up the tent front not to the bottom, as the snake can squeeze in via the zipper body, unzipping the opening enough, lesson learned.
