It is said that the huge worms can at times be heard crawling underground.
The Gippsland Valley where they are found was originally, in 1800s discovery by explorers deep temperate rainforest, of huge trees. It is stayed that at times, horses and carts travelled on decomposing leaf and branch ltter up to 30ft deep from surface to real soil floor.
This was cleared by settlers largely just felled and burnt over time, such that now the valley is largely just green paddocks, largely dairy farms. Also the valley is almost all over huge brown coal deposits, left from near 300million years ago. I would think the huge worms are prehistoric types, that thrived in that temperate rainforest, and now survive in the rich moist farm soils, but realistically while surviving not doing so well without the former deep leaf and branch litter layer they evolved in.
Bower birds are great, especially gathering anything blue, preffered over other colours. Decorations all to attract a female mate
