I would face Australian "dangerous" animals, snakes spiders, scorpions centipedes (approx 10cm long), dingos, camels, etc, anytime before the US dangerous animals, bears, cougars mountain lion, wolves , even Elk and Buck Deer, Rattle Snakes even.
I do agree I would like to avoid Salt Water Crocodiles, even Sharks and dangerous 'stinger' jelly fish and related. but do admit swimming in a river known for presence of Saltwater Crocodiles, but the Aboriginal children were swimming and felt partly safe.
Also have swum within meters of fresh water crocodiles for hours, seeing them there on the banks, on several occasions. They were up to and bit over 1m, 3ft, long so large enough for sure.
Even slept in my small 2 man tent at official camping, tent area, to find a Saltwater Croc was in a billabong within 50 yards/meters of me sleeping, in the morning seeing croc tracks within 10 yards/meters in the grass. Was not aware until morning having pitched there as directed by camping area office, after dark the evening before. They admitted not being sure if one had moved in, wow even suspecting one should have caused changed camping arrangements.
