Lots of those cheap airlines lease secondhand aircraft retired by majorr airlines. Have bare minimum maintenance required to maintain airworthiness.
I do not know details of US FAA controls vs Euro authority requirements, or how much where the airline is registered and country taxation conditions. Certain Ryanair is Ireland, a known low taxation country. Others may well operate from smaller tax haven countries. In Europe airfares by the major airlines was, years ago while I regularly had to travel with the EU, were not especially cheap. A lot of my flights were however often part of my international flight bookings, including "World Explorer" that included multiple in EU flights on condition that to return to origin, Australia, required travel via both eastern and western hemishepes, mea ing not to and from flights along same half globe. Usually Australia to Europe via South East Asia, and return via US or Japan. Cost actually cheaper than normal return economy fare, without extra flights free. The "World Explorer" with up to 10 EU connecting flights included.
