They protect their nrsts, in breeding season.
Depends how scared you are. They do draw blood easily by hitting neck scalp or ear regionss. But turn and look at them they depart quickly. Just do not turn just as they hit home as your eyes can be taken easily.
The wack can hurt nicely.
I on the other hsnd after first couple of times have been in trouble at school and also from police, as I tempt them to attack. Sadly that makes others, scared people, declare it makes them attack others more. I disagree, as I get them to attack but stop them before actually hitting home. Experience is after a few days attacking they actually stopped having become use to not harming their nest.
In public places, parks, bus stops, railstations, school yards, authorities blast the nests with shotgun, and thus drive the attakers away to protect scared people.
On bicycle helmet paint large eyes on top and they no longer attack. Some even setup a grid of spikes, by tying nylon zip ties with long tail poking above, disputed by some as in effective, but seen magpies swoop but not actually impact. The bike helmet is a good protectiin anyway, but neck and ears still get wacked.
