I would say that there is less danger in Australia, if excluding large number of venomous snakes, which by nature avoid people. While sometimes found around homes few people get bitten and in almost all cases safely treated with antivenen. We have no dangerous bears, mountain lions, wolves, coyotes, like in the US. I can go hicking or fishing without carrying firearms for self protection. Proper attention and possibly a good stick will keep you safe.
Over many 4WD trips, unless specifically seeking creatures, only maybe a dozen snakes, and similar for scorpions, dangerous spiders, etc have occured. We are surprisingly safe on the whole.
Been bitten by a red back spider, and fid not even seek medical attention put up with a couple of days ok aches and swelling. Had my forhead pushed on in my tent by a wild dingo's nose, on Fraser Island, where people have been attacked and children killed in dingo attack.

Really super size monitor lizards, today the Komodo dragon is largest, but Australian Goannas, some species, can exceed 4m, I personally have dragged over 3m injured, stunned goanna from a roadway, after it was run over by a car, and chased and grabbed 2m examples. They are damned strong and claws are long and sharp. Do not get bitten as the wound is assured septic and needing urgent medical care, or likely faral consequence. So no laughing matter. Fortunately little risk of being attacked, only risk is to fools like me who collected lizards and felt confident to grab a gonanna. Snakes and such large lizards are definitely only for foolhardly people who over estimate their own abilities. Yet I have survived to 70yrs age so far and while alot more cautious and possibly (probably) too slow now, would still not be scared to try.
