I think many Australian race fans are more interested in races of cars they can aspire to, and racing driving skills, rather than highest power and speed running processions around an oval track, in cars that are not real, just race built chassis to hold powerful engines and enclosed in fibreglass panels simulating roughly normal cars. For those wanting oval racing maybe sprint cars hold enough fascination.

  2. Calder park provided multiple circuits and a drag strip. Motor bike and car races had choice of a winding track with optional segments/curves selected for different races. It lies on the Calder Highway running from Melbourne North West to Bendigo and ultimately to top end of Victoria at Mildura on the Murray river. The circuit is some distance out of Melbourne though suburban sprawl is commencing swallowing it and making racing harder to run there as noise is complained about. Already the complex is enclosed by a high earthen bank to contain most noise. Why oh why do people move into vicinity of special local systems, racing , sports stadium, airports then complain about noise or large crowds. Because prices are reduced because of the adverse conditions. That low cost of course becomes forgotten as part of the complaint about XYZ problem, is keeping property values down, demanding get rid of it so values can go up.

  3. To best knowledge they are stripped down real cars, not custom constructed race chassis with body panels making believe to be real cars.
