The joke made about wombats is that if driving along and are about to hit a wombat on the road but given a choice of hitting a boulder on roadside or the wombat, hit the boulder, it does less damage. Wombats are natural bulldozers and will push through most fences and otherwise just dig through under the fence. Steve certainly has a fearless aspect, and makes highly dangerous things look easy and everyday. Sadly it was also what killed him in the end. The chainmail suit he was offered was a bit too tight, and he chose some very closeup filming around large stingrays. With relative small space to sea bottom he swam above a stingray, that reacted in self protection raising its barb and flicking to escape from under Steve driving the barb right into the chest, and into the heart. No way remained to save Steve. A very sad loss, but a loss forseen by many in earlier risky behaviour, as an inevitable accident end for Steve one day
