In automotive OEM manufacture, at least Europe, Australia and others the manufacturer is expected to produce spare parts for 15 years.
Without raising the manufacturer that I worked for until retiringva few years ago, one job I had in early 1990s was a design of a replacement for alternator regulator to replace an obsolete design from 1970s and before that in early 1980s designed an electronic alternator regulator to replace pre 1970s electro-mechanical regulator, as the old product based on copper windings on metal cores trimmed to actuate contacts to regulate alternator output.
Thereby ensuring repairability of cars, trucks, buses etc charging systems, beyond 20 years even into the 2000s and so beyond even 50 years, though now made by a third party who purchased the rights to manufacture when these products were entirely removed by my employer. At least a third party was given the design under license for a relatively small one time buy of rights, no royalties even.
I have had involvement of over 40 years in automotive OEM products. Always long term of minimum 15 years support often well beyond assured. Not all were were huge volume items but car model specific. Yes the regulators were continued in very sizable volumes, and if tiny market volume would have received less continuity, but at least 15years was always cutoff minimum to cease product support.
