  1. You have never mentioned the CD-I Format, pushed by Philips. I even had CDdrives on by PC that played these, as did the Commodore CD-32 and I also had MPEG encoder/decoder cards for PC, compatible CD, CD-I and DVD, but mostly because those also encoded video and were usable with DVD-R discs to make own DVDs ie holiday, home video, weddings etc
