It's because you put them on a pedestal whether you want it or not. It's because you think they are mature, intelligent and RESPONSIBLE people. When you say the West pushed Putin, you are saying implicitly that he is not a mature and RESPONSIBLE person. No responsible and mature person gets pushed to commit heinous crimes even more so against his own cousins or brothers. In a way, you are right. Putin is immature and irresponsible.
