  1. LWIF, I think it would be really interesting to see interviews with homeless people. I'm curious to know how they became homeless and what their goals are. I'd also be interested in seeing interviews with any NGOs that try to work with homeless people and what their goals are. Thank you again for this video.

  4. You reminded me of the old joke about a New England fishing village. A family, husband, wife and a month old baby boy move to the village. The baby grows first into boyhood, then into manhood, marries and lives in the village never leaving it until he passes at the age of 97. At the funeral, the pastor begins his eulogy saying, "God, please bless this stranger to our shores..."

  12. Where I'm from things are a little different. I grew up in a large city where cars aren't necessary or maybe even easy and so I walked or took public transportation almost everywhere. As an adult I moved to a 'burb where everyone has a car and one of the reasons I chose my current abode was that I could walk to food shopping. I was pretty self satisfied with my choice until someone told me that the reason I had made that choice was because I was too lazy to get in a car and drive. I still feel a little confused about this and now many moons later I do mostly drive everywhere. But I'm still surprised by seeing the occasional person who drives to throw out their trash. I'm still too lazy to get in my car to do that. It also makes me wonder about life in rural Japan where I understand the population is aging and you can't walk to the supermarket and other places. On another topic, I'm really curious about how you keep the children interested in English. I'm going to guess that it's not all lesson books. Movies? TV? Shortwave? No, maybe not that last one. Thanks for the video. I think the quality is really great.

  15. Thanks for this. It's always interesting to see how people dress and what rules society makes for that. I was also interested to see how well these ladies spoke English. Were they selected because of their language skills, or is that level of proficiency common for recent college graduates? Either way I think it would be interesting to gather them together to ask them about their experiences learning English.

  27. In those winter months I often have lamb stew or chicken vegetable soup for my main meal. Sometimes I have these with rice or some other grain since I don't usually add potatoes. Sometimes I make the lamb as a curry, the sauce is a little thicker and not the same variety in veggies, but the main change is spices and curry is served with raita.Usually my main meal is lunch. I suppose it could be dinner, but where I'm from people tend to use supper and dinner as synonyms. And on occasion breakfast is my main meal. Your nabe looked wonderful. What happens to the broth? What other things can go in the pot? Do you make this at home or is it a thing that you get when you visit? Is it comfort food?

  31. How does the restaurant know how many plates you pulled off the conveyor belt? Where I'm from we don't have family restaurants that are exactly like this. There are all you can eat places and there are buffet places but I've never seen a place with a conveyor belt. Maybe the closest thing to that was a burger joint pretty close to where I grew up that had a model train that the cook would use to deliver hamburgers to customers sitting at the counter. He'd run the train and have to stop the right car in front of the right customer. Sadly closed now. Maybe the closest thing we have to a family restaurant are the local diners. You can get almost anything you want at a diner. I had sushi today. The local supermarket prepares sushi and sells it packaged. Not very expensive and normally quite tasty. Not the same varieties that I think you have and of course I'd have to look in a different section of the supermarket if I wanted a cream puff.

I read somewhere that Japan has roughly per capita the number of architects that the US has for lawyers and has roughly per capita the number of lawyers that the US has for architects. Perhaps not quite true. But I'm starting to see why with such small and differently shaped lots Japan has so many architects. I also feel I learned a lot about how the zoning system works in Japan. I really enjoyed this format and I'm looking forward to and hoping for more on this and other topics.

Two, among others, that are relevant to this discussion are Natural Born Citizens and Naturalized Citizens and these two classes do not have exactly the same rights since Naturalized Citizens are not eligible for presidential office. Although it's possible that someone might say that the text of A14 changes this a little bit and SCOTUS has the final say, so that might change. I would still like to see evidence to support your assertion about "an ethnocentric racist". Do you have any?
