When women buy into the idea of having a career, or when governments encourage women to work in lieu of having children, they delay having children, and often find that they have waited too long, and their participation in the labor force increases the supply of labor and thereby depresses wages, reducing the benefit of the second income. When women choose a home life raising children over careers, it frees them to raise the children, and also reduces the supply of labor, causing wages to rise and making it more likely that the husband can support the family.

  3. What is going to happen is that the cultures which cherish having children will proliferate, and the cultures which are focused on non-family goals will go into decline. This will be most prominent in nations in which the government has not arrogated to itself the privilege to determine cultural values. Nations whose pro-family segments are the smallest will go into the greatest decline until the recovery takes root and will undergo the most radical cultural changes.

  4. To turn this around: Set income tax rates on family size. Unmarried people pay the highest rates. Married without children pay a lower rate. Married couples and widows with one child pay a lower rate, a still lower rate applies for families with two children, and families with three children pay the lowest rate.

  5. The key to understanding America is that we are a nation that mostly wants freedom and equality, governed by a ruling class whose concern for these things is spotty at best. Don't blame our concern for freedom for every bad thing that happens here; much of the bad stuff results from the very anti-freedom acts of our government.

What we are going to see is that in each of the affected countries, the mainstream culture, which tells women to find fulfillment outside of parenthood, will continue its numerical decline, while the subcultures which deliberately reject this viewpoint will continue to have 3 or more children per family and eventually grow to supplant the mainstream.

  7. The key factor is whether an irreligious majority is able to dragoon the youth into state-run schools that peddle anti-religious propaganda under the guise of enlightenment. In the US families can shield their children from this, either by finding a private school that teaches their values, or by home-schooling the children.
