  1. As W. Edwards Deming said, "Drive out fear." Deadlines are the enemy of software quality. There is no good reason to set deadlines. Never. Not even once. New features should never be made public until they are ready to ship, and should never ever be promised ready by any specific date. Setting deadlines in order to pressure developers to be more productive is stupid; it hurts the workers and doesn't do the company any good. Only God knows how long things will take, and He isn't on the payroll.
