  1. The fantasy-land thinking started decades ago on the Left Coast. Because each step created problems that could easily be swept under the rug by a press dedicated to getting Democrats elected at any cost, growing numbers of politicians got the idea that they could indulge their fantasies without consequence, and growing numbers of voters were on the public dime and voted to keep the checks rolling out.
