Normally a business can deduct labor costs from income, so that labor costs are not taxed. Congress made an exception for software developers. Their pay has to be spread out over the current tax year and the following four years. It's the real reason that software developer hiring has taken a hit as of this writing.

  2. The easiest way to tell the value of a degree is to look at the math requirement. The harder the math, the fewer people get the degree, the fewer you have to compete against.
