  1. For me it depends on whether wearing a helmet improves or reduces the safety of other users of the roadway. I know that on a bicycle, an insect flying into your face can precipitate an accident. Hitting a bug at three to five times the speed of a bicycle will definitely compromise your ability to safely operate the motorcycle.
