Two Words: Central planning. Centrally-planned economies are always a house of cards. Their continued success depends on the central planners being right in their assumptions and decisions, but that clique has an ever-decreasing chance of actually being right. There is also the simple fact that the bulk of China's growth has come from rapid increases in capital investment, a large labor force, and free access to foreign markets. The capital investment is reaching the point of diminishing returns, market access is not going to increase, and their labor force is about to go into steep decline.
