  1. There's a bit about American pilot culture that may not be known outside of that community. When a mission group is out they don't radio back asking for guidance on anything. They have their objectives and the authority to deal with unexpected situations according to their own discretion.

  3. I was stationed in the UK when this went down. My unit had no involvement in this at all, but it was covered fairly well in the Stars and Stripes (the US military's official newspaper). The headline read "Iranian ship 'dead in the water' after attack by US". I did a bit of cut-and-paste to turn this into "Iranians 'deader than s***' after nuclear attack by US".
