  1. Cenk does have a point. The Democratic gubernatorial nomination in California is effectively the general election, and as we've seen, kingmakers play a major role in it. If the kingmakers pick Harris, she will be the next governor. This is because the Californian electorate is dominated by voters who believe that their abortion rights, welfare check, union benefits, LGBT set-asides, etc., are doomed if a Republican gets elected.

While the misguidedness of the elected officials is the immediate cause, the antecedent cause is that for state-wide offices in California, and most other offices as well, the Democratic nomination is the real election. And if you follow politics, the nomination depends more on one's ability to manipulate the party machinery than it depends on presenting a compelling case to the electorate. The race goes to the slickest. But the cause of the one-party rule is the electorate, specifically, the voters who care only about ideological issues and vote to preserve the Democratic position on that issue, even if it means voting for a potato head.

I don' think Trump cares at all about the Republican party, beyond the need for there to be enough of them in Washington to preserve his legacy, but if he can get stuff done in Cali, where the state government could only flail about like idiots, he will deal a hard blow to the Cali state Democratic party.
