  1. Most of China's growth is due to rapid catching up in industrial technology, leveraged by working the people harder. With four times as many people as the US, we would eventually expect China to have an economy four times the size of the US, if all other conditions remained the same. But they're not the same. It's too early to claim that the corruption has had no effect. It may be that with US levels of corruption China would already have passed the US, or maybe would have bypassed the US years ago.
