If you take the amount of CO2 that was in the air ten years ago, and add in the amount of CO2 we've put into the air during those ten years, and measure the CO2 levels now, you will find that the latter measurement does not account for all of the burning we've done. Natural processes have removed much of it. Plants are very good at getting CO2 out of the atmosphere; it's literally something they need to do to live. CO2 is also added by natural processes (forest fires, volcanoes, and the weathering of carbonate rock).
