  1. Most developer unhappiness is the result of not being allowed to do quality work. Either we have to struggle with a code base that has major structural issues that management does not allow us to correct, or management foists unnecessary deadlines on us.

  2. The Win32 API had a lot of issues, but it was documented as well as any developer could want. I wish the same could be said about DirectX.
