  1. The amazing part is how any economist who advocates for free-market policies could have seen this coming. It is likely that they would not have been able to make specific predictions, but one central tenet of free-market economics is that central planning always produces a house of cards, and the longer the central planning continues the greater the inevitable collapse.

  2. A centrally-planned economy is always a house of cards, because everybody is tied to whether the central planner's assumptions are correct. In the long term, they never are.

  3. We can't trust them because they no longer regard honesty as a sine qua non of journalism. They made that choice when they decided to be players in politics. The rot goes back farther than most people reading this have been alive.

  4. When I left California in in 1992, the state government was already a fountain of stupid. The laws passed by the legislators are pushing the smart voters out of the state, making a turn-around in the governing philosophy less and less likely to happen.
