The US's use of nuclear bombs to bring an end to the war did not change the course of the war, it brought the war to an end sooner and with fewer casualties, than there would have been had the allies invaded the island of Japan.
We were not there faced with those decisions.
We may disagree with that decision, but, we do not have a place to judge or condemn those that found it necessary, to destroy multiple cities during the course of WWII.
Those who have never been in a position in which their actions necessitated the taking of another's life, assume themselves to be morally superior to those who had not choice but to pull the trigger. In truth, those who have not been in such a situation, that judge and condemn those who choose to defend their own lives against an assailant, are in fact, morally inferior, as they actively adhere to themselves to the criminal element and demand those who defend themselves, be the next dead victim, of the criminals they refuse to prosecute.
You may think the two are unrelated when in fact, it is the same judgmental attitude that demands nations and people to give up their right to self defense.
