  2.  @kickdragon  "freedom of speech and the right to protest is included in that!" Not all speech is protected by the 1st Amendment. If in a citizen's speech and protest, the citizen is adhering to the enemies of the United States and giving them aid and comfort; according to Article III Section 3 of the US Constitution, that citizen has committed treason. Such speech and protests are not protected by the 1st Amendment and despite the fact that many defense attorneys would argue the defendant did not intend to commit treason and is therefore not guilty, Article III Section 3 of the US Constitution does not mention intentions. It only mentions actions. As a result, the "intent" defense is not applicable to the crime as treason is not about one's intentions, it's about one's actions. The Constitution puts the obligation to insure that a citizen's actions does not constitute an act of treason, on the citizen. It is always stated that "Ignorance is not a defense", and a good majority of Americans today, do not know the legal definition of treason, that is written within the Constitution of the United States. Article III. - The Judicial Branch Section 3 – Treason Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort. No Person shall be convicted of Treason unless on the Testimony of two Witnesses to the same overt Act, or on Confession in open Court. The Congress shall have power to declare the Punishment of Treason, but no Attainder of Treason shall work Corruption of Blood, or Forfeiture except during the Life of the Person attainted.
