Back in the infancy of computers, it was very often said; "we will never need more than that".
The 8 bit computer chip gave way to the 16 bit computer chip, which in turn gave way to the 32 bit computer chip, which in turn gave way to the 64 bit computer chip.
The 256k of ram gave way to the 500k of ram, which in turn gave way to the 1 megabyte of ram, which gave way to 2 megabytes of ram which gave way to 4 meg and so on and so forth. Today, my computer has a full 32 gig of ram.
The 144 k floppy gave way to the 1 megabyte disk which gave way to the 1 megabyte hard drive which gave way to the 10 megabyte hard drive which gave way to the 120 megabyte hard drive and so on and so forth. Today my computer has a 1 Tera-byte SSD drive.
The progress of years has proven every "we will never need more" statement false. We can and should deduce from the historical facts of computer technology and progress, that the claim; "we never need multi day batteries", to be just as false as the computer "never need more than" statements have been proven false. We should also deduce that as time progresses and technology improves, the claim that we "never need multi day batteries", will be proven just as false as the "never need more than" statements.
One of the primary reasons that technology continues to progress and advance is because if it didn't; all those engineers and researchers, would become unemployed. So they, by advancing technology, safegaurd their future employment.
