I still think that the fact the USA had annexed so much land is why people can get ahead much easier compared to just capitalism, the netherlands and sweden are very pro capitalism and while they are rich they don't have the same level of social mobility and most of the growth in Europe is through investment into places like eastern Europe and southern Europe, partly due to the EU as well.
