4:30 it goes even further, nations that engaged in colonialism were less wealthy than nations that did not, the worst ones that engaged in massive slave trades are now the poorest nations, while the most wealthy nations were those that never had colonies or if they did never had slavery.

I do disagree with stxy on the native american question, the natives in the USA were the original people of the American continent and the British/American colony/nation expanded and eradicated many of them, before they were wiped out due to diseases, a lot like how the nazi's tried to expand and eradicate slavic people. Now I'm not saying ''feel guilty, pay reperations!'' that's bullshit but I do think it's fair to admit that's what actually happened, likewise Europeans are native to the continent of Europe, same for Africans on African continent, same for Asian people on the asian continent, these groups are not one whole people of course but they are native, they have lived long enough and have been changed due to the climate there to be considered natives to those lands.

@TrumpyBear_Armageddon does that in any way make them non native? this is the issue here, go back far enough and we are all microbes, at what point does a group of people become native? honestly it seems like this ''is not a real native'' argument only comes forward by americans on their neck of the woods, while at the same time having no issues with say aboriginals in australia, new sealand or europeans being native in their lands of origin. I would say if a group of people have lived on a plot of land for thousands of years non stop, have been changed by the enviroment and have their own cultures bound to the land itself, it's a native people. the modern US state only exists because it removed the natives from most of those lands, by force and getting a helping hand by nature. I do get why this is an issue to some americans because it pokes pretty large holes in the american exceptionalism propaganda of doing no wrong and building a shining city on a hill.

@travismiles5885 I agree, the whole guilt trip bullshit is just a grift by people who are by their own logic just as guilty but want others who don't feel that way to give them money, it's a lot like the priesthood allowing people to buy forgiveness for their sins.

@TrumpyBear_Armageddon Im not engaging in a "gotcha" type of argument, im simply saying how I see it, I live in Europe so I might not understand why/how americans feel about this, from my perspective it seems they don't want to admit to how they became so powerfull as a nation which at it's core is expansion via settlement and war, otherwise they would have just stayed 13 colonies and left the rest of north america to the french or british.

@TrumpyBear_Armageddon I don't understand your argument, what does being in conflict with different tribes or some plots of land having no people on it in any way mean that the natives that lived on the continent as a whole are not natives? The reason why it's important to class them as natives to me at least is that if those people aren't natives then nothing is natives, that would mean there are no native Europeans, native Chinese or jappanese, it means the whole concept of a native people existing and having self determination would come into question.

@TrumpyBear_Armageddon and how did the US get to that point? because it expanded both via military and by buying land from other colonial powers, they also got involved with other north and south american countries as well as in asia, it's hard to invade because it already invaded/settled/annex most of the north american continent, it's a massive landmass the only nation that comes close to it in sheer size is Russia.

@TrumpyBear_Armageddon I'm a bit confused with your argument, im not talking about how were they defeated and I even agree that most of the work was done through disease and due to inability to form long term forms of government due to a lack of technology and cultural differences, the European settlers were just far beyond what they could get together, though it should be said that many of them did form confederate alliances that gave the early american settlers a hard time but the american settlers could always get more immigrants, their populations would always keep growing and would continue pushing west, the best they could hope for would be some power taking pitty on them or use them as puppet state/people for their own benefits, the French did this a lot as well as the British to a lesser extend. the issue now of self determination is of little significance to the native americans, their numbers are so low and they still don't have a single identity, language or culture that could ever hope to be an independent nation, let alone a nation that could carve it's own state within the USA, so their struggle is pretty much a lost cause. it's pretty sad though and it did not need to be like this. self determination is a funny concept because some people/nations have it while not being free as a people, other nations are puppets by stronger powers and are more wealthy and more free, some nations give up some forms of self determination but in the process get more power and influence than they would have otherwise, it's an idealistic idea that every people deserves a state but in reality it's mostly artifical and true power still comes through the barrel of a gun, no matter which way you slice it, it's inevitable.
