I would have to slightly disagree with you styx, people in the netherlands smoke less because we have lots of programs to try and get people to stop smoking, I think we even have health insurance that covers things that help with nixotine withdraw but more so because the government has been taxing cigarettes into oblivion, going from 3.50 in my youth to 10 euro as an adult. the other issues is the netherlands has some of the harshest, most expensive and silly gun laws in the world and can't be used for self defence, in fact if you find someone in your house, attempting to rape your wife or something and you shoot them, then they can and will sue you (if they survive) for attempted murder, often times they will get away with a few years in jail, while you might see 20 years or life, depending on how much in a good mood the judges are that day. however what we do right which the USA could learn from is our slighty less insane government policy on law and order and wellfare spending to not have so many poor people next to rich people towns, besides that however I do wished we had US style gun rights, at the very least hand guns or something, though if we did I think most politicians would suddenly fear for their lives more often.
