Why? It does not make a lot of sense to me how so many people think the confederate states would collapse, since they basicaly have the same constitution as the north has with the exception of slavery which was on it's way out anyways. Also the causes of the civil war seems a bit odd as it's remembered, because the south did not fight to try and take over the north, it fought for it's independence from the north so why/how they attack first is often glossed over by most historians and historic movies about the period. Im not american so it's a bit harder for me to understand american history but a lot of this periods history as well as certain others seem murky and oddly written about, seemingly for ideological reasons rather then factual. I rarely see anyone bring up the tarriefs of abomination or if they were significant at all, it's quite messy for history.

Idk, they basically have the same constitution and with a southern victory and a humiliated north they would likely stick closer together and attempt to solidify the confederate states but who knows perhaps it would fall apart or they might have expanded into mexico, who knows?

Well it's mostly ideologically driven, the south is basically a rejection of the north's claim of being true to the constitution of the founding fathers, the ideas of freedom are less about actual freedom and more about freedom from being oppressed, as a result having southern states reject the north's mandate of being true to that idea would feel a sense of dread, rejection and discust towards the south for not believing in their form of political rule even more so if they lost to the less industrial south. Even worse immigration from other parts of the world and from the south itself might cause a more pro white supremacist view in the north and a desire to not just unite the nation again but to rid itself from people of african american origin to cleanse the nation so to speak. I can see a future in which the south becomes allies with the entente and in ww2 the north allying with the germans in ww2.

No, it's just old authoritarian and pro violence democrates trying to divide and harm the nation again. Perhaps they should try and have their independence because they aren't going to be free or united under the union but they beter stock up on ammo and soldiers because the north would invade again like they did last time.

I disagree, many in the south army had fought the mexicans during that war before the civil war and mexico was very divided and thus easy to conquer if the south had won their independence, for sure the north could try and attack them if they went into mexico but if it were easy and popular they would have tried it before then. I think many would just let the south fight mexico, if they saw they were losing then they would invade the south to secure it against Mexico, if the south won against mexico they just ignore it and wait for a better time, which would likely come in the future as the north industrialized even more, you could see them start a war during ww1 then just annexing everything the south had won before and call it their own or giving only parts back to mexico to keep them happy.

Would the south not have a whole bunch of veteran soldiers from the civil war? I imagine they just crush them and try and expand into the north of mexico, in the worst case they just sign a treaty ending the fighting and giving some form of autonomy towards minority groups or try and deport former slaves to mexico

@benjamin6194 I don't know much about it but my understanding of the times is that communication and cooporating was quite difficult and that such a rebelion with slaves would likely fail, there are only a few slave rebelions i know of the one in haiti being the most well known being done largely by a former french colonial soldier i believe who then became it's admiral and defeating the french navy during the 100 year war but im not sure. but yeah lots of what if's i suppose.

@benjamin6194 that's how i remembered it. was this also not during a period of war for France? with the english? im not sure. seems unlikey that the french would lose if it was just haiti vs france but multiple players and problems at home seems more likely, im not sure.

Well, idk slavery is less efficiënt for a number of reasons but it's also looked down upon and given more economic sanctions if a nation had such a thing, except when it comes to China, there they have slave labor and is used for cotten picking and is quite profitable I believe, the thing is however not all industries can benefit from slave labor and being dependent on it for a nation's main form of income is just bad economics allround.

The northern states and the federal government would never accept that, just like they did not accept it in the first civil war. People often hate the EU and praise the USA and don't get me wrong plenty of things wrong with the EU but in the USA states (with a few exceptions) aren't allowed to leave the union and thus and state that leaves will be at risk of being invaded by the federal government, not so much with Europe (ironic i know) Many people would love it if the southern states become independent but it's likely never going to happen because the federal government won't allow them to and even if they did it would weaken the USA which would mean it's less of a global super power. The truth is your stuck with the the southern parts just like they are stuck with the northern parts, they want to be free and not face censorship or oppresion from Biden and his goons but both the democrats, the government and most of the people won't let them, it's a winner takes all shit show and not everyone is going to be happy with the results.

The republican party is way more cucked to the democrats then you admit, Trump was realy a rejection of that cuckery of old and a return to true conservative thinking and now that the republicans can no longer hide that fact the republican party could be done for and replaced by an actual conservative party, then you might have a point of them singing dixie songs, it be nice if the south won it's independence from the north but I don't think the north would let them, it's all about power and controle they don't care about the people or how many lives it would take in another civil war.

Then there would still be a civil war because the north would not have allowed them to leave, many people don't know this but Abraham Lincoln literally offered them to keep their slaves if they just don't leave the union and they still rejected it. There is no such thing as pure evil and you should see some of the arguments being made by pro slavery groups, it's full of arguments about having compassion and needing to take care of their slaves, that to abolish slavery would be a crime to them and many former slaves would continue to work at their former Masters plantations as workers so clearly there is some truth to these arguments.

@thomasaquinas5262 yeah but most people don't and a lot of people like to romanticize him and other parts of history often by spreading ahistorical facts and disinformation that then most people assume is correct this is why the ''history is writen by the victors'' has some merrit since how history is remembered is how it effects the present and future as a result.

@mistermyself1128 no it's not, it's a revolution of independence the same one the USA had against the british to the british this was also seen as treason but to the american colonies like the confederates it was them taking back their own lands with their own constitution. if you are in favor of the south leaving the union why are you calling them traitors and waging war against them for wanting to break free in the first place? not only will you visit those that try to break away but you will then tell them they are traitors for not wanting to be in your union. many of the southern states were countries before the union was even formed and they chose to join the union but when they wanted to leave they were invaded, these are facts. if im honest you sound like a fascist, states are the property of the government and any who try to break away are traitors in your eye's, by that logic the whole of the USA are traitors to the british crown.

@mistermyself1128 what do you define as US property? how is forming your own government with people who represent the states overthrowing the government? it's at best questioning the legitmacy of the federal government's authority over the states that are trying to form it's own government. a coup is defined as wanting to remove the esteblished government and it's rulers and replace them with your own often via the use of the military but that's not what the civil war was about, because the confederate states weren't trying to take over the US government they wanted independence from the US government. now you can say ''well the government of the USA does not recognize that and therefor pretends like they are commiting treason against the USA and should be treated as traitors and not as simply a new nation that formed out of their borders'' but from the confederate perspective they weren't traitors they were fighting for independence. @mistermyself1128 actualy we are, we get censored on all major platforms, we get attacked by the media, we get racially discriminated against by the state and publically funded institutions and typically face more crime and police brutality while also being denied equal treatment by both the government and the media companies that contole most of the global forms of communication. The truth is you don't care about that because you are a pro authoritarian who likes the power and the silencing and oppresion of others who you disagree with but will likely realise your mistake when it's you that get censored, attacked or discriminated against. The USA is an oligarchy in all but name, the rich and the corporations rule most of the government, political parties and get the most favor and even public support via subsidies paid for by tax payer money. YouTube is a company under Google and Google is a group under alphabet and with other groups they controle most of global communication and dictate who gets to have a voice and who does not, not only do they controle most forms of communication and work with political groups to maintain and direct that power and influence but they also work together with other companies and media corporations to attack potential competition and seek to remove their presence off the internet, sometimes attacking payment processors or writing hit pieces with the specific purpose to get them censored, it's why most US citizens don't trust the corporate media and why anti trust lawsuits are being made to remove Facebook, Twitter and Google off 230 protection. Now you can just pretend like non of this matters and that people like me aren't being oppressed, alienated or discriminated against or are "snowflakes" but in the real world these things matter, this is real power, and more oppresive and threatening to both the west and the world then groups like ISIS, Iran or Russia can ever be, the only one close to it is China and that's because they have their own system of controle and censorship, theirs is even more oppresive and they use the same systems as Google and Youtube they just don't use a proxy like the USA has right now. I find it interesting how the northern parts of the US are more developed and industrial while being more racist, while the southern parts are more "diverse" and have lower rates of education. I don't think society has become any less racist, just more dishonest and after ww2 racism did not somehow end or become less common, the USA just became the world superpower and thus everyone has to get along with whatever they want no matter what the people or governments of the world think, if the USA were to collapse as the world superpower this would quickly change in my opinion.

There is a lot of unknowns here, the north could even become fascist and ally with Germany to retake the south. The only reason the south would ally with Germany is if the south felt threatened by the north and had something to offer the Germans and visa versa
