  1. Why do we keep pretending like the USA is not an empire? Its a country the size of continental Europe! Taken mostly either by buying land or conquest via war, it has waged war on almost every country in the world, it regularly burns down whole country and then cheaply extract resources, people or instals puppet governments to their national and economic interests, it deals with any sort of potential rivalry with assasinations and funding of rebels or sanctions it can get. Now you can say "well, yeah but its mostly been good for the west and most other people" fair enough but don't come and tell me they aren't an empire they clearly are!
