I think a federal EU is inevitable but it will only last if it both represents the people's interests and is able to act better, faster and stronger than any individual member state.

@gplaneg don't we all Speak English as a second language at this point? Its not about creating a single language superstate and forcing everyone to speak the same language or have the same culture, its about political, economical and national security interests being secured for the interests of memberstates themselves, we are stronger together, thats it.

@transexualbanana8270 probably not that severe, just replace certain leaders and make it easier to push new policy through.

@miguelpadeiro762 you misunderstand, it's not an official language, it's a working language, which we already use in the EU as well as French, German, Polish and Spanish if im not mitaken. English is simply the most effective language across the EU, since nearly everyone has English as a second language, it is also the offical language used for Ireland which is also in the EU. everyday people in their national borders should still use their native language but as a EU institution and as a tool for pan-european projects or national security issues, conducting it in English is simply the most practical. how can you defend the core values of Europe if you can't agree on a working language?

@Robert_2001 economically it's probably nessisary, for military projects it could aid NATO and being reliant on another power for defence which could change in the near or far future is setting yourself up to be divided or abandoned in the future. You can take up a passive ideology if you want but the future is made by those more pro-active and many people want to do so, hell the pandemic and current Russia-Ukraine war shows just how weak we are divided and how we have much more potential united. A Federation of European nation states does not mean cultures and languages will be erased, in fact I expect them to be better defended and supported compared to being isolated.

@fly_lord that's already being threatened while being under national sovereignty, the integrity of the nation is already being influenced and changed by the cultural, migration and economic forces beyond our borders, from refugees from the middle-east and africa, to economic powers like the USA and China or directly via military force of nations like Russia. the idea of national sovereignty made sense in the 19th and 20th century when the world was much bigger and insulated, today our problems are global and can't be dealt with on small national scale of European countries, how can Estonia build an army to protect it's borders without NATO? how can Italy or Greece deal with migrant flows without aid and support from other member states? how can we deal collectively with aging populations and economic stagnation without working together on some level?

@Robert_2001 the thing is you don't really have national Sovereignty because you are influenced by other much larger nations, cultures have also changed and with the waves of immigration and refugees going on the world it's unlikely to remain anyone's homeland in the near future. The EU was always a political project because its goal was to prevent war between nation states, via economic means at first and then politically directly. The EU right now is a bit of a mess and can really only go two ways, desolve or evolve.

@5Siver don't look at people, look at institutional systems of electing people, you can have 1-8 bad leaders in a row but if the system can remove them and be replaced by a better person then that's democracy working if you had 1 leader and he happened to be good/bad like say a Putin then your stuck with that leader for a very long time and they won't leave without a fight. people should be replacable systems should remain constant.

@Klote3241 this has the same energy as "if Trump is elected il move to Canada" I doubt you would move, hell I live in the Netherlands and the more religieus eastern Europeans would be more stabalizing for the EU as a whole, western Europe is very far left and looney, I hope we become less atheist because it's a very corrupting and harmful effect on society. Perhaps we can return to actual conservativism of actual western values like free speech, democracy and national identity with our European identity.
1
@Klote3241 Atheist voters don't prefer personal freedom at all, Poland and Hungary are probably more free then the Netherlands, our government ban everything and don't want more personal freedom, it's one of the reasons im thinking of leaving the Netherlands, it's less free now then it was 10-20 years ago and getting worse. Idk what you are talking about, I want a federal EU because I hope it will become more free due to nations like Poland and other nations, not nations like France, Germany or the Netherlands.

@Klote3241 not forming a federation would solve what exactly? Nothing, just makes things worse for everyone.

@Klote3241 free speech and democracy are more important than LGBTQ and abortion rights, as someone who lives in the Netherlands I can say that I don't feel represented by my own government and often think they only exist to take more rights and freedoms away.

@Klote3241 remember when our government locked everyone up during covid and send police and police dogs to bite and attack people protesting against government sanitary fascism? I do. Not so much in eastern Europe.

Immigration could be done by the EU but healthcare seems unlikely but that's just me, idk how it would work out.
