I doubt Russia will allow Belarus to become part/close to the west, Lukashenko's regime is coming to an end the moment he dies, the government just does not have the support of the people. but make no mistake Belarus will not become part of Europe unless the EU and NATO take drastic measures and by drastic i mean putting troops on the border between Belarus and waiting for the regime to fall and then the second the new regime says ''we are pro EU'' send in the troops, if the timing is right and Russia does the same then a small scale conflict is inevitable but NATO is stronger than Russia and Russia has other issues to deal with so they might back down. now is the EU and NATO going to do that? unlikely, it would be a political risk and the western states just don't understand the nessesity of war anymore but that's the only way to change the current state of Belarus the alternative is annexation of Belarus by Russia.
