@AndrewLoui hahahahahaha good one, what is this 2014?
29
I find it interesting how different countries have like national styles of cinema, the Netherlands for example has a very common, gritty style to it, you recognize it instantly, where as the French and Italians often have more bright colours and clean look to them, USA is very big, CGI and everything set perfectly, like unnaturally so.

@AndrewLoui Hollywood mostly just makes garbage and slop and repeats and remakes of works of 10-20 years ago, hell they make remakes 3-4 years after they came out and there is no creative juices, it's just bland, boring and these ideological propaganda. Hell whenever I see a Hollywood movie I just get pissed off, amazing entertainment totally won't get replaced by the next best thing from anywhere else. I for one hope Hollywood collapses so we can finally get something better.

well, I've noticed more people watch anime now and often watch them without dub, people come for the product, if the USA stops making good product someone else will and replace them, it's not happening right now but there are some major cracks that could backfire hard.
13
@AndrewLoui not only do they recycle older movies more and more, each time they make them worse and worse, many beloved movies from the past have been ruined for a generation as a result. I hope that after these groups collapse we can get good movies again, so far I think it will take 5 years till there is anything worth watching in cinema.

@AndrewLoui entertainment was their goal, that ended around 2014, since then it's become dominated by political interests groups, far removed from the quality it used to have on many levels. If you want a good example is CGI, it's being used in so many movies and done so poorly that you can compare CGI from 2000s to today and see the decline, multiverse of maddness vs pirates of the caribian 2 come to mind.

@damackabet.4611 I believe anime is bigger in Europe then in the USA, hell we keep finding warfootage of Ukrainian and Russian soldiers fighting with guns that have anime girl stickers on them. Modern day love handles.
8
@Jehty_ not so in the Netherlands, we also don't translate many movies to Dutch.
3
and 97% of the population can speak english @Jehty_
3
@Jehty_ because the audio quality of movies tend to be very shitty, it's good to have sub titles then, even in English. Most people could easily watch a movie in english without subs, it's just easier and less confusing with subs.
3
@Jehty_ 20 years ago it was like 92%, 30 years, 80%. Not sure before then but it probably was at it's lowest post ww2.

hollywood movies have gone down in quality lately, it's been years since I've seen a really good movie

@southside2459 Hollywood lives in it's own delusional little bubble, fake awards for fake movies about fake topics to push for a fake ideology. What a joke they've become.
1
you see the same in smaller series, netflix shows made in the USA, it's a style of lighting, background and just typical american stuff only then the hollywood version of it, I wish I could give a good example to contras this but nothing springs to mind, when you've seen a lot of European movies you recognize different styles, USA has a real national style @realtalk6195

changes in movies from books can work, lord of the rings is a good example of cutting and adding that worked, here is the trick, the director deeply respected the source material. most of these new directors don't respect the source material or delude themselves into thinking they could write something better. they don't focus on merrit or dare to experiment. @drdewott9154

I really enjoyed Dune 2 but you can still see the modern day issues shine through at times, though it's a step in the right direction it might even make me reconsider those 5 years to 2-3 years if they keep polishing out the bad changes from the past but who knows? @drdewott9154

I dont think European cinema could become as big as hollywood, simply because we aren't allowed to make movies that people would want to watch or the means to make them, maybe in the future but not now.
