it's very unlikely, the idea of the EU becoming a federation and either annexing or merging with Russia makes way more sense than a merger with the USA and Russia, the two have nothing in common, don't share a border, language is different, history is different, economies aren't that tied to one another, political system is different, while that's also true for the most part with the EU, at least they share more of a history, Russia is a slavic language, economies are much more tied together, political systems while different are closer than the US system, they share borders with eachother. in short the Russia-US merger is as likely as Brazil merging with China.

Russia is kinda falling apart though, everyone is cringe these days, esspecially the USA with it's wokeness, thought Europe is not far behind.

@THE_ELÐEN_LORÐ yes mostly in the western parts, the USA might be the strongest military power but it's spread thin and does not seem able to defend the border region with Ukraine, likewise it's not like the European nations are very prepared for war, they have the people and funds to do so, yet they have not done so, partly because it would be member states doing the build up not the EU as a whole, plus nations like Germany aren't allowed to build up their army or use it to conduct war which is the primary roll of a military which makes investment into it make little sense.

your right but politics is strange, sometimes nothing happens for almost a century and then suddenly everything can change in a matter of years, I think your going to see talks and movement towards federalization by 2025 and probably a real attempt around 2035 or sooner depending on the situation with Russia and China, if Russia invades Ukraine for example that would make the geopolitical push for federalization much stronger. I think at some point Russia is going to have a mild collapse probably after the death of Putin, it's economy and aging population as well as authoritarian government is going to become a major issue, there could be a movement towards democracy in Russia as a result and waves of independence some of it's regions, the EU could also change and become more like a federation, either in conflict with Russia as it declines or seeing it's weakened state and offer a mutual beneficial set of deals to slowly get it into it's sphere. I do think with enough time and effort you could see Russia become part of the EU and then at that point you can see talks of the US-China Alliance to try and counter such an alliance/merging of powers, it's unlikely for the short term but long term it's a real possiblility.

if the USA just left tomorrow that would be a huge power vacuum and would probably lead to war with Russia that would want to expand into eastern Europe, the Europeans would probably rush to try and get their military production up to size but either it's not enough time to compete with Russia or it can barely hold off long enough for the rest of Europe to counter Russia, it would be a bloody war and people would hate the USA for not just abandoning them but doing so in a way that they could not prepare enough in time, perhaps you see limited nuclear strikes too. however if the USA wanted to leave NATO and Europe, it could do so very easily in a very responsable way, there could be agreements of a slow but steady withdrawal from Europe to other parts of the world/back to the USA and the need for the European nations/EU to fill the void, if given say 5 years or more they could probably have their militaries up to the same level as the USA military bases provide today, the only thing they would be lacking is the army experience of their soldiers, these nations have enough wealth and manpower to deal with Russia if properly prepared, they aren't weak or poor, stagnating to a degree perhaps but not weak. but the USA would be stupid to do this, NATO is a great benefit to US power projection, it ensures stable supply lines and logistic support as well as access to intelligence support for the whole region from the middle-east, to africa to central asia, giving that up without a fight would be bizzar from geo-political standpoint as well as a historical standpoint and would make the USA seem much weaker than it actually is.

when have they ever given a shit about democracy? it's all about power, the USA has overthrown democratic states to instal dictatorships just because it was usefull for them or because of the cold war, im not saying the USA is evil or anything but it's not about spreading democracy, it's about power, democracy is just a really stable way of having power for the people and nations instead of say the king or dictator that would want to expand an empire. also I would not be suprised if in a future conflict with Russia, the EU could win (with US help) and start to intergrate Russia into the EU, it's very difficult to be sure but seeing the failing russian economy and the EU's lack of a powerfull army and nuclear weapons, it would be a very good deal for both to deal with China and the USA.

I agree on the multicultral part but im just not seeing the EU fall apart, after 2016 most members aren't really pushing for leaving, the visigrad group has fallen apart to a large degree, most rising ''far right'' parties in Europe have made few gains and often major losses in the last few elections and the EU has ironically become less in favor of letting in refugees and openly support Poland against Belarus and Russia to a lesser degree. there are still major issues like Nordstream 2 and Germany doing stupid stuff like trying to take down their own nuclear power production but im seeing a weird sort of shift in european politics, more of a push towards federalization and higher resistance to eurosceptic movements, that's not to say they have no future at all but im just seeing a dip right now and I don't know if that's going to continue or if they are going to adapt to becoming more like how the republican party is in the USA, as in being a major block for a different kind of EU instead of outright trying to leave it all behind.

@IceGuadian that's the most mindboggling thing, the greens should be all about having nuclear power, it's much cleaner than coal, gets us off russian gas, produces so much power for the amount of space it takes, it does have some dangers for sure but there really is no risk of a chernoble disaster, esspecialy not with the new gen 3 and potential gen 4 models, all the disasters that did happen was due to human error not the model itself. And yet the greens are most against nuclear energy, hell they say the AFD party is in "denial of climate change" but they are actually in favor of keeping nuclear power, while the greens open up coal plants because they shut down the nuclear power plants, it's beyond stupid, Germany is going in a very bad direction, meanwhile France produces 70+% of it's power from nuclear energy and has reached it's climate goals unlike Germany. I can't stand the green parties, I hope they collapse.

yes, imagine a EU that becomes a federation, lets Russia become part of it as well as some of it's puppet states, then seeing China and the USA team up to a degree to then have proxy conflicts in the border regions and in Africa as well as the middle-east.
