One of the reasons why people get so hyped or angry about it, is because they tend to be come victims of it, become deluded into it or simply can't make sense of what it is or represents from any major news sources, when distrust is high and people feel confused they tend to look into whatever sources helps them make sense of it which includes conspiracy theories or political talking points. People know that corporations only care about profits which is what makes the whole DEI and ESG so confusing. Not to mention how certain groups engage with it or around the same topics that become more present in the zeitgeist. Games have been effected a lot by this mess, as well as many other companies or tv shows to the point that you can't really escape from it. Hopefully it goes away and people can actually enjoy themselves and their hobbies again.
